Printmaking Workshops

At Hope Press we offer printmaking workshops at the studio in Clarence Mill in Bollington.

Try your hand at kitchen lithography, lino-cut, making greetings cards, wood-cut, drypoint, etching, reduction printing and multi-colour prints.

Classes are for people looking to develop a new skill, or can be a lovely focus for groups looking to celebrate birthdays, hen-dos etc, or for corporate team-building.

I can cater for groups up to six and provide all the materials required. â€‹Get in touch via my email bybemo[at]gmail.com to check availability.

Kitchen Lithography

Kitchen litho was my gateway into printmaking. It is very loyal to the marks you make, so whether you paint with a brush or draw with a pencil it's very free and expressive. It uses really safe, affordable materials – in fact, all stuff you can find in your kitchen cupboard.

Who’s it suitable for: sticky oily inks means kitchen litho suitable for anyone of 8+

When? Book a time that suits you

Cost? £50 for a three-hour introductory session. All materials included

Lino Cut

Lino Cut has to be the most satisfying of print-making techniques. The slice of the gouge through the lino, the crisp whites and colours of the print as you ease it from the block…

Lino has enormous range and possibility and is incredibly accessible. Whatever your experience, you can make something lovely with lino.

Who’s it suitable for? Anyone over 8 with a modicum of respect for sharp tools!

Drypoint

For me, drypoint is the overlooked underdog of the print making world: it’s often eclipsed by it’s swashbuckling cousin etching. But oh! The velvety blacks, the elegant lines, the immediacy. Use a needle or abrasives to scratch an image onto a plate, building up a print of really magical depth and atmosphere.

Who’s it suitable for: anyone of 8+ ( the inks are a bit sticky for smaller printmakers)

Etching

From its origins decorating ancient armour, etching has an aura of pedigree and possibility. The print is made by corroding material away from metal plates and the variety of marks and effects you can create is almost endless. Tecnhiques have alluring names: spit-bite, sugar-lift, aquatint...

Traditionally the process is fraught with health risks. At Hope Press we use modern acrylic resists and galv-etch mordants to make etching significantly safer.

Who’s it suitable for: anyone of 15+

When? Book a time that suits you

Cost? £65 for a three-hour introductory session. All materials included. Come and work on a pre-prepared plate to create your own print in a morning
